Assigning roles to students and teachers

Updated September 26, 2026

Why change user roles?

It's important to make sure your students and teachers are labeled with the correct roles in Flint. This is how Flint will know how to treat them—being more helpful to teachers and acting like a responsible teaching assistant to students. This guide will show how to change roles in bulk and individually.

How to assign roles

Any admin of a school can assign and edit roles. There are four different ways to assign these roles:

  1. LMS/SIS rostering
  2. Add and assign individual roles
  3. Bulk add and assign via CSV upload
  4. Bulk add and assign via email domain

Adding a domain in Add domain, choosing a default role, and saving it for the school

How to change roles

There are two main ways you can change people's roles:

  1. Assign unassigned roles
  2. Change individual member roles
  3. Bulk change member roles
